“Ben re-thatched our house in the summer of 2015. Ben is a knowledgeable and experienced master thatcher and came highly personally recommended to us. His quote was competitive and his anticipated timeline accurate. He and Matt, assisted by Luc and James, worked effectively as a team. They were skilful, hard working, entirely reliable and good humoured at all times. They kept the site clean at the end of each day. The roof was previously in a very poor state, covered in lichen and moss and on the rear aspect especially where the old straw had sagged a hump had formed along with extensive areas of rot. He worked so efficiently to completely transform the roof and it was most fascinating to see how this developed over the weeks. At last the roof is now flat and smooth with such beautiful sweeping curves and detailing.

I’m particularly impressed with the uniformity of the thatch around the ridges and curved surfaces, and the blending of the flush ridge.

Ben was at all times completely professional and reliable, worked extremely hard to finish the job in a timely manner while leaving a tidy site at the end of each day and without rushing the quality of finish. On top of all this, I thought that he was very competitive on the cost as well.

“I am writing on behalf of Woking And District Angling Association where Stewart is a member. One of our Fisheries projects for this year (2009) was to build a new boat shed and without hesitation Stewart and Ben offered to thatch the roof.

They carried out the job using just a few handmade tools with such craftsmanship it was totally absorbing to watch and caused much comment and interest. Once finished the roof indeed was a work of art right down to the large Carp which was sculpted from reeds and chicken wire to be set on top. What better for a boat shed beside a fishing lake.

“Bens re-ridged our thatched roof and did an excellent job. The roof was in a worn state, the ridge had dropped and patches of the roof were covered in moss. He rebuilt the ridge, cleaned the whole roof and replaced the wire netting completely. He worked very efficiently, was totally reliable, conscientious and completed the job in very good time.
