“Ben has just completed a complete re ridge and main roof overhaul for us. He did a superb and professional job with meticulous attention to detail. He really is a true craftsman and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing thatching work done. “We’ve recently undergone a complete rethatch on our beautiful 14th century cottage. This company are professional, courteous and extremely hardworking. To be honest it has been a fabulous distraction during the long days of lockdown. The end result is stunning, the comments from the villagers in Nonington say it all. Thank-you Craftwork Master Thatchers.” – Kim Carvell, Nonington, Kent

Paul Fox Highstead, Sept 2022

Ben did a fabulous job replacing the old thatch and installing the new thatch at a property that we manage. He carried out the works as per our instructions, whilst also putting forward his own, sensible suggestions when necessary and continued to keep us fully updated on the progress of the works.
We will definitely consider using Ben again and would highly recommend his services.

“Ben re-thatched our house in the summer of 2015. Ben is a knowledgeable and experienced master thatcher and came highly personally recommended to us. His quote was competitive and his anticipated timeline accurate. He and Matt, assisted by Luc and James, worked effectively as a team. They were skilful, hard working, entirely reliable and good humoured at all times. They kept the site clean at the end of each day. The scaffolders suggested by Ben (Sunbury Scaffolding Services Ltd) and the lead provider, Ben, were equally professional and courteous.

We are delighted with the final product. The care that has gone into the roof is obvious. We have no hesitation in strongly recommending Ben.”

Dr Neil Munroe

“Ben and his team were really easy to have around, they worked under difficult circumstances due to the very wet summer and various unexpected issues that arose with the house.

They thatched the whole of our large detached house, and were always aware of the security of the house, especially when we were not at home.  They designed the roof pattern with consideration of the house shape and consultation with us and we are very happy with it.

Their humour and nice natures made it a very pleasant experience.  We really missed them when they left and all of the family enjoyed having them around.”

Mr and Mrs Harrop Oxshott, Surrey

“Ben has restored the roof of the Saxon Long Hall at Thorpe Park to its former glory.

We found him to be very professional. Site supervision and regular liaison with the client is excellent. Work is carried out in a tidy, conscientious and efficient manner with the minimum of disturbance.

Ben places great importance on Health & Safety.

We therefore have no hesitation in recommending this contractor for similar or related works.”

Chris Edge Head of Development, Thorpe Park

“Ben was very professional, reliable and polite. The finished result is absolutely beautiful and we have had many positive comments from neighbours and passers by. We would not hesitate to recommend Ben to anyone requiring this service.”

Mr & Mrs Pleece Westcott, Surrey

“Ben completely re-thatched our roof and we are so absolutely delighted with the result!

The roof was previously in a very poor state, covered in lichen and moss and on the rear aspect especially where the old straw had sagged a hump had formed along with extensive areas of rot. He worked so efficiently to completely transform the roof and it was most fascinating to see how this developed over the weeks. At last the roof is now flat and smooth with such beautiful sweeping curves and detailing.

I’m particularly impressed with the uniformity of the thatch around the ridges and curved surfaces, and the blending of the flush ridge.

Ben was at all times completely professional and reliable, worked extremely hard to finish the job in a timely manner while leaving a tidy site at the end of each day and without rushing the quality of finish. On top of all this, I thought that he was very competitive on the cost as well.

A really great job all round and I would not hesitate to recommend Ben – Thanks for such a wonderful job!”

D. Wilton Cold Ash, Berkshire

“I am writing on behalf of Woking And District Angling Association where Stewart is a member. One of our Fisheries projects for this year (2009) was to build a new boat shed and without hesitation Stewart and Ben offered to thatch the roof.

They carried out the job using just a few handmade tools with such craftsmanship it was totally absorbing to watch and caused much comment and interest. Once finished the roof indeed was a work of art right down to the large Carp which was sculpted from reeds and chicken wire to be set on top. What better for a boat shed beside a fishing lake.

Stewart and Ben are indeed very gifted craftsman and we would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them a great deal for all the work they carried out for us. It was brilliant.”

Steve Carpenter Fisheries Manager W.D.A.A

“Bens re-ridged our thatched roof and did an excellent job. The roof was in a worn state, the ridge had dropped and patches of the roof were covered in moss. He rebuilt the ridge, cleaned the whole roof and replaced the wire netting completely. He worked very efficiently, was totally reliable, conscientious and completed the job in very good time. We were very pleased with the result – it looked like a new thatch.

We would recommend Ben to anyone they are a skilled team with a very professional approach.”

Dr Neil Harbury Chieveley, Berkshire

“Ben completed the re-thatching of my house roof in a timely and workmanlike manner, the quality of the finished roof is excellent, and his sensitivity to fit his work practices around family activities was greatly appreciated.”

S.J. Finlay-Notman Bucklebury, Berkshire

“Ben did an excellent job for us. He replaced the ridge which was about twelve years old. He also dressed and re-furbished the reed roof. The design and quality of his work was superb. Our roof looks like new again but with a much better designed ridge. He completed the job ahead of schedule and taking into account the high quality of his work the price was reasonable.”

Mr A Hadden East Horsley

“Ben commenced the re-thatch at St Lawrence and Highland Court Cricket Clubhouse, Bridge, Nr Canterbury during Oct/Nov 09. Both Ben and Stewart worked in an extremely professional manner during the whole process.

They covered and left all areas clean and tidy and arrived on site at mutually convenient times to complete the project. Any concerns and problems were discussed immediately with me and addressed/rectified in an expedient manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending them, as a competent and competitive firm of Thatchers, for any future clients.

May we take this opportunity to thank Ben for a wonderful job, which will be enjoyed by both club members and visitors for many years to come.”
